Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 1, 2005 It has a water to oil heat exchanger but no external oil cooler.
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted March 1, 2005 so what exactly dos that do. work like a rad for the oil. if this is shagged will temps rise??
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 1, 2005 It's an alloy lump bolted to the block....water flows in one side and oil in the other (seperated internally) and the two fluids 'exchange heat', so that the hot coolant warms the cold oil up and the hot oil dumps it's heat into the cooler coolant....it's quite effective to a point, but you really need an oil cooler in the air path for effective oil cooling. matt_corradovr6 0 Posted March 3, 2005 right any one got any ideas of how much this might cost to get done professionally, or where to buy the kits from for the rado??
Neil VR6 0 Posted March 3, 2005 John of JMR in West Sussex did mine with a load of other work but in isolation I think they're about £140. pm him (16VG60) for more details. Alternatively give him a buzz on 07974 020031 after 5pm.
beavis 0 Posted March 3, 2005 Don't be intimidated by the oil cooler being a difficult job to fit. They are a relativly easy to install by a novice if you take your time. It should not take a specialist more than 2- 2and half hrs to fit a cooler for you.
ben16v 0 Posted March 3, 2005 i fitted my mocal on my 16v with no bother really, did have it up on ramps to make it easier but still was ok job. (put mine behind my bumper just down and in front of the rad if anyone`s interested)
fla 9 Posted March 16, 2005 Just had a look on ebay and there are several coolers there, some mocal and prices look attarctive. What size of cooler is requred (rows, 13 or more?) I've got aircon which means there's even LESS space by the radiator to mount another heat exchanger. Any advice and instllation appreciated. TBH, why would it be any more than removing the metal block on the side of the engine block and replacing it with a nice HX with appropriate valving?
