Rawhide 0 Posted June 21, 2003 Argggggggggh.. I brought the car ('92 VR6) home to my folks place to sort out the HT leads. I had a slight misfire at just around the 1750 rpm mark. It really was slight and not allways noticable. My mate got me a set of Champion HT leads that fit fine. I have made sure they are all tight on the plugs but when I start the engine it doesn't want to idle and sounds rough  I thought at first it was just a bad lead so I have swapped back each lead at a time with the original but it doesn't help. I can only think that I have somehow messed up the firing order!? The distributer cap has number on and I haven't removed it at all. I have traced the numbers back to the plugs and my firing order as looking at the engine from the front is; 153 246 Is this right? The only other thing that I could have balls up is I removed a couple of electrical plugs/sensors and sprayed the contact with carb cleaner  They were the two black ones just to the right of the engine block. One is nearest to the engine fan motor and the other sits on top of a silver tube at the top right of the engine. They are both snug back on so I don't know what I could have done wrong!? I really need to get out of here today as I have lots to do so I don't need car trouble  Can anyone help!?
Jim 2 Posted June 21, 2003 Well I dont know the order from past experience, but I am hunting on the net for you right now...
Jim 2 Posted June 21, 2003 Got it... its 1 5 3 6 2 4.. thats where you went wrong :) And I have confirmed that by checked a number of different sites.. they all say the same firing order :)
Rawhide 0 Posted June 21, 2003 THANKS Jim, I tried that but it made it worse!! OK I now know the order should be 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4 on the diz cap.. what I don't know is which cylinder is which.. I am guessing the pattern is like this. *00 000 = 1 0*0 000 = 5 00* 000 = 3 000 *00 = 2 000 0*0 = 4 000 00* = 6 therefore 153 246 I don't know much about v6's but that seems wrong to me.. It doesn't seem balanced..
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted June 21, 2003 Its 135 246 You might be able to just read the yellow tags on my HT Leads. I have a coilpack, so can't show you the dizzy end - since I haven't got one! I'm sure the plastic tracks that the HT leads lie in are numbered too, though....
Rawhide 0 Posted June 21, 2003 Update - I have now assumed that the cylinders are names (as you look at the car) 123 456 tried this with firing order 1,5,3,6,2,4 but it didn't work.. I'm gonna try 654
