h100vw 0 Posted March 16, 2005 Is it on the charger or on the steering pump?
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 thanks m8,its on the charger, goes from the pulley to a little toothed wheel? :? neil.
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 h100vw, thanks for letting me ring you m8. :thumb right:
Geo 0 Posted March 16, 2005 was it split in half all around the length of the belt but still turning the pulley ok? If so you are a lucky bastard!
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 nope,it was snapped in half, hanging on the top toothed bit and not connected to the charger pulley! im pretty sure its been snapped for a while? but h100vw said it couldnt have been? neil. :)
Geo 0 Posted March 16, 2005 It couldn't have been or your charger would be toast AFAIK
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 oh sh1t,well theres oil in the airbox pipes and the charger outlet,a grey/black colour? :( im not having much luck with this motor  not good...
Geo 0 Posted March 16, 2005 When did the charger last get a rebuild?
h100vw 0 Posted March 16, 2005 Neil, some oil in the pipes IS normal. If it's swimming in oil then there could be some problems. I have not heard of one of the those belts snapping without creating visible external damage. For the belt to have gone and not poked anything out of the side, the displacer must be in tatters. Don't go and hang yourself yet though. Get us/me some pictures. Gavin

W3RKD 0 Posted March 16, 2005 if the belt has snapped unfortunatly your supercharger is dead. i have never seen one that has survived yet.. i really hope yours is the first to survive but unfortunatly i really doubt that.
Supercharged 2 Posted March 16, 2005 Surely you'd notice the 50% drop in power and grinding noises coming from the charger!!!
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 thanks guys, well i dont ever want to replace a g60 water pump ever again! knightmare,my backs fecked :!: cheers for the info so far,geo the charger had a stage 2 jabba rebuild 10ish k ago. h100vw sh1t hot link nice one,i wouldnt say it was p1ss through with oil, more covered rather than swishing about and it was like a mettaliccy grey?. as for the results, well it still feels pretty slow to me :? but i checked the boost on the mfa again and still showing the number 2000 which supposedly equals 14 psi? measured the pulley while it was off,70mm. i thought it was 68mm that people went for,is the 70mm standard? or is it 78mm? rings a bell. thanks a lot guys, what do ya reckon? in fact maybe the water pump seized on the way to my mates garage causing little belt jobby to snap? sound plausable? neil. :thumbleft:
Supercharged 2 Posted March 16, 2005 So have you replaced the belt now then???
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 oh aye yeah! sorry m8 im knackered  rang vw about one and they didnt know what we meant! :? got a local motor factors to make one up,they used my old one as a guide. :) dont know how much it cost yet i just drove home as soon as i finished. neil. Supercharged 2 Posted March 16, 2005 errr.... I'd get the heavy duty wide one from G-werks, remember that belt is driving a component that will cost over a grand to replace (if it isn't already knackered!)
Riley 0 Posted March 16, 2005 thanks for the advice m8,i thought my self i was cheap skating a bit,i am skint like but not worth the risk i suppose. how wide are they vs the original? and how much? :D ive got a boost return kit on the way from g-man,maybe pointless? what do you reckon on the charger? cheers m8. :thumbleft:
