Just Painted my Sump..........should i have done

Just bought a new sump for my VR, it came with a thin layer of black paint over it. Ive got some hammerite finish paint which is very hard wearing so i painted the outside lightly...........now i read the tin and its highly flammable..........do you think its still safe to put back on the engine?........i dont want it cathcing fire or owt.

thas fine solong as you DONT paint the inside, as if you did all the paint would flake off and block your oil pick up,,

happened to us when a reputable company made a baffled sump for us, and thought it would be a good idea to let their apprentice paint the inside!!

Its the solvents in the paint which are inflammable. Once they have evaporated, the paint should not burst into flames! Hot oil in the sump will further bake off any solvent.

I have painted sumps often with Hammerite.
