Hi Mate. Different maufacturers claim varied results, but, apparently it's 10-15 BHP.

I know i could easily feel the difference when mine was de-catted so thats all that mattered to me.

Do you notice better peformance?????

When I put a de cat on mine it seemed to breathe a bit better toward the top end but the difference was not massive. The exhaust note changed thought..... for the better!

I think it is one of those mods that is worth doing (assuming your car is pre Aug 92) as it certainly complements an air filter, stainless system and more boost from a smaller pulley even if on it's own the gains aren't great.

Back to the topic, i was told by a local well established r/r rally specialist that in most cases on most cars removing the cat makes ef all difference especially vw as they are very good(flow wise). Whenever they de-cat the car they do a r/r sess before and after, sometimes car even looses torque!

A cat is a big honeycomb and your motor has to push air through this guy and as the revs get higher it becomes harder to push air through it. The cat also expands the exhaust flow and then comrpresses it again as it leaves so it does hamper exhaust flow. If you remove it you will lose some back pressure which will kill a bit of the bottom end but once the motor is spinning at higher revs it will increase power. You do incease the unburnt hydrocarbons which isn't good for the air we breath so it has its ups and downs.

Cheers, Dennis
