cam cover rubbing on bottom pulley

Recommended Posts

hey guys

i changed my cambelt, tensioner, pas belt, alt belt, throttle cable and checked my cam chain yesterday as part of my 150,000mile service :8):

when i pulled the bottom half of the cam cover off it had 2 grooves where the bottom pulley had been rubbing on it,

i had heard a whirring noise after leeting off the throttle before the work was carried out

the tensioner was knackered so thought it was that, however all back together the noise is still there, the cover is fitted correctly but cant see how anything can be rubbing.

any ideas ????

cheers

ben

did you try it without the cover on just to be sure.

and dont stand over the engine with the cover off, just incase the belt snaps. after all thats what the covers for.

My tensioner was shot but on first inspection I thought it was the water pump as when I removed it and cracked it open and the impellor had been fouling on the housing and this is what I think caused the high pitched sqealing sound so I replaced this £12 gsf and while it was off I had supercharger overhaul so I did all belts and tensioner as well, when removed and spun by hand it felt like it was a dry bearing so I am unsure which one it was but no noise any more for not alot of money.
