rossy t 0 Posted April 13, 2005 me again !!! the power steering sounds well noisy like a cow do all corrados sound like this, i wouldn't mind making it sound a bit quieter if possible, the PAS fluid levels are fine. the steering feels damn heavy though, ive driven all sorts of cars but it feels like driving my old punto on 17s with no power steering at all, perhaps its mullered??? ive searched on here but didnt find any good threads about this. cheers 8)
chrishill 0 Posted April 13, 2005 had this problem on my old valver when i first got it, get your PAS belt checked, mine was worn and changing it solved the mooing and weight!
rossy t 0 Posted April 13, 2005 BANG ON i found a decent thread about it in the end, entitled power-less steering. sounds like theres a problem with the fluid, or the belt. how much am i looking at for a pump incase its that thats kicked the bucket? VEEDUBBED 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Hey rossy, Make sure you didn't use the wrong oil when /if you top up. Only use Vw's hyd. oil, If you need a pump, i've got a couple of spare ones left.Cheers,Andrew.
stevemac 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Only use Vw's hyd. oil, Yup - only use the green stuff. If your oil is red, that's likely to be what's shagged your pump and/or steering rack ..
craigowl 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Funnily enuff, this month's Car Mechanics talks about changing power steering fluid every two years. Any of you fussy technical guys do this, or do you just top up? Where can you let old fluid out on VR6?
stevemac 0 Posted April 13, 2005 I've never changed power steering fluid - unless I've changed part of the steering system as well. Shouldn't need topping up either, unless there's a leak.
rossy t 0 Posted April 14, 2005 yeh dont worry guys i got the green stuff G002000 i think its got green stuff in there anyway, im gonna check the condition of the belt and give veedubbed a shout if its still buggered :)

Chris VR6nos 0 Posted April 14, 2005 It's true that the fluid damages the componants, if it's had the wrong fluid in there in the past it may still help by draining and filling with the propper stuff but it can take a little time to bleed it's self through and get the bubbles out and go quiet again, do some lock to lock cycles to move the fluid to where it needs to be and push bubbles out Chris
