MysticBlueStorm 0 Posted April 24, 2005 Tried the search option and apologies if there's a thread already (please point me to it if there is) but considering buying a G60 and I know the superchargers need sorting periodically................... what does it cost? And what is the mileage intervals for the work? Thanks in advance.
Jim 2 Posted April 24, 2005 Get all the prices you need from the fine folks at G-Werks :) http://www.g-werks.com In short... standard pulley should be checked / rebuilt every 50-60,000 miles.. and if you go down to something like 68mm pulley, every 25-30,000 miles. MysticBlueStorm 0 Posted April 24, 2005 Thanks Jim - been on the site and it costs upgrades but I was looking for cost of service / std rebuild etc. Also, what symptoms do you get when it needs doing as apposed to just doing it at the mileage and what are consequences of not doing it? Cheers (why am I considering a G60 instead of my VR6, just cos I like Yellow?)
MNuTz 0 Posted April 25, 2005 heres the email reply i got from G-werks concerning my rebuild "How would you be bringing the charger to us ? would it be on the car of via a courier service ? If its on the car the costs are £370 + £75 removal/refit Via courier £370 + £12.04 return carriage One days work for on the car basically drive the car in for the day and return home same day . Courier service 3-4 working days. There are lots of great things to do to your g60 I would recommend getting it to the standard that vw intended it to be before tuning though as tuning a car that’s not 100% fit could give you further problems. For any further assistance you may require please do not hesitate to contact me.."
Supercharged 2 Posted April 25, 2005 what are consequences of not doing it? £1k for a new charger plus a boost system cleaned and engine apart and inspected for debris if it goes bang so best to get it done really! If your cars done 80k miles or more and the charger hasn't been off then get it looked at asap! My charger was in good condition at 89k but the small timing belt was about to snap and the oil feed was broken!! MysticBlueStorm, as your down that way best to get you car in to be set up, you won't beleive the difference it can make!
Jim 2 Posted April 25, 2005 MysticBlueStorm - symptoms of a poorly charger, I think, are things such as: * Low boost readings (use the MFA trick) * Blue smoke out of the exhaust * More than just a very thin layer of oil in the charger outlet pipe * Oil leaking from underneath the charger
andrewdowd 0 Posted April 25, 2005 mine's a 1991 but i don't have a boost reading on the MFA??
Jim 2 Posted April 25, 2005 There is a trick you can do - if you go and read the buyers guide (link for the lazy!) it shows you what you need to do to get the boost reading off the charger :)
