Blown 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Apart from the obvious, what,if any, damage could be caused by driving without the PAS belt in place? Mine has managed to twist itself and partly shred,so while I wait for a new one from the dealer, should it be used? :?
Supercharged 2 Posted May 4, 2005 You'll probably be ok, I wouldn't drive it tho as the steering will be stupidly heavy...
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 4, 2005 Try driving it, LOL! It's a lot heavier than a car with a non-assisted rack and it feels very 'steppy'. I really wouldn't drive it unless you have to mate.
Blown 0 Posted May 4, 2005  Yeah, had the pleasure of driving my MK2 without PAS for a while, when the metal pipes corroded-ended up with arms like Popeye. Just wondered if it would affect the pump in any way-I don't fancy having to replace it.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 4, 2005 It won't affect the pump but it might damage the rack as you'll be fighting against the non-pumping hydraulics.... but we're talking prolonged use here. A few drives round the block shouldn't hurt anything.
Blown 0 Posted May 4, 2005 So here's whats lef of a brand new PAS belt....... The smaller bits were wrapped around the crank pulley and I've also discovered that the charger belt has been chewed too-missing one rib all the way around. :x :(
Supercharged 2 Posted May 4, 2005 Hmm - how did that happen??? CHECK your crank bolt if I were you!!!!
