Elboy 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Hi all, I've seem to have developed an oil leak and i was wondering if anyone knows if there should be a bolt (as arrowed on the pics) attached? Otherwise any ideas where it might most likely be coming from? Are there any common problems i should be looking for on a C engine? Cheers
Supercharged 2 Posted May 4, 2005 I think there should be a bolt there - had a clutch change by Mr Clutch recently? I think the oil leak is coming from higher up tho...
Elboy 0 Posted May 4, 2005 No no clutch change recently. maybe the previous owner did??
Henny 0 Posted May 4, 2005 nah, that's relatively normal for a highish milage car... you'll probably find it's mostly P/S fluid as they always leak a little from the pipework infront of the engine... There isn't a bolt that goes through that hole as standard as that's just a cover for the clutch which comes off seperataly to help you remove the gearbox... 8) Only start to panic if it's actually DRIPPING oil... What you may like to do is to take the sump off and replace the sump gasket next time you do an oil change... (you may even want to change the sump seeing as they don't cost much!) It's a fiddly, dirty job, but is pretty easy to do... 8)
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Whenever i've re-built any vw engine i've never put back those two bolts hidden within the gearbox's bell housing and i've never had oil leaking from there, the bolts are pigs to get out,but just try gettin them back in again without cross threading the holes. Not worth the hassle.
Supercharged 2 Posted May 4, 2005 No offense VEEDUBBED, but why does your text always come out all squished up like this??
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted May 4, 2005 'Cos on one of my earlier posts I kept forgeting to use thekeybord return key and so some comic subtly pointed this out,By the way mr MOD,how does one get to be a moderator?,and what does 'LOL' mean?, may seem like a dimwit question but i've never known the meaning... Henny 0 Posted May 4, 2005 LOL = Laugh Out Loud To become a Mod, the other Mods and Andi (who owns the forum) decide that we need another mod and invite someone we think is suitable... 8) You only need to press the return key at the end of every paragraph like I've done in this post... I've not pressed return in this sentance at all and the forum software will happily make it look correct on the screen for whichever size screen you use with your computer... I think what someone was pointing out in that post was that you used no punctuation in it so it was impossible to work out where one sentance ended and the next began... ;)
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Exellent henny, now maybe i could teach you some Italian mate!!.
Henny 0 Posted May 5, 2005 I doubt it... I'm bad enough at French, German, Japanese and English... Adding Italian in too would just confuse the hell out of me! ;) Personally, I'm impressed with anyone whose country's native language isn't English but who still posts on here with the regularity that you do... 8)
