striderwilson 0 Posted December 20, 2005 No idea how hard they are to strip - but new ones are normally sold on an exchange basis so it must be possible to repair all but the worst ones. How bad mine is I honestly don't know - so if you want it to play around with you can have it foc - let me know if you want to collect or me to post it. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 20, 2005 That click is common on VR ZF racks, even the new bloody VW I fitted a year ago does it  Vince did manage to remove the slack from the pinion by winding in the 22mm preload adjuster screw an 8th of a turn and that totally transformed the steering and removed the click. Tight, slack free and responsive and also none of that usual vagueness around the centre. Unfortunately that fix lasted all of 2 weeks, so I've sourced yet another rack  I WILL get rid of the clonk one way or another
24V Renshaw 0 Posted December 20, 2005 Me too mate, I will get it sorted. Hence why I am getting this spare rack to dismantle and figure it out for myself. Jay

dr_mat 0 Posted December 21, 2005 Clunking: can also be caused by the UJ catching the trim under the dash .. can also be caused by the steering column .. can also be caused by the track rod ends ..
