pimp 0 Posted May 17, 2005 Not really sure where to put this?? The C in with the stealers for it's annual stamp in the book. As usual I expected the worse, as usual they delivered. They have told me my cat needs replacing. They quoted my £900 pounds and pence plus VAT to do this. :( After picking myself up off the ground I told them to hold off replacing it. Can anyone give me any help on where to source a new cat? :?: By the way it's for 93 VR6. Steve. :(
chrishill 0 Posted May 17, 2005 try GSF mate, i'm sure it'd be cheaper! I bet most of that is labour, although it'd probably take a compitent garage and hour at most to do, it took me and a mate around 3 hours to swap two full exhausts over on our vr6's, i'm a total novice and hes pretty well experinanced. You could also look at a cat bypass to free up a few BHP, although you'll probably need a cat back on for the old MOT.
Tempest 0 Posted May 17, 2005 Right, try and get one second hand. I got my VR6 cat (for my G60 incidentally, as the VR6 cat is made of metal rather than ceramic, and should last a lifetime) off a member of this forum through the for sale section. Had my local Powerflow exhaust centre do the welding (took them 2.5 hours, all just for 25 quid plus 100 quid for the cat), after which i refitted the Lambdaprobe myself properly. fatherted 0 Posted May 17, 2005 I failed my MOT with the CAT last year and consulted local VAG specialists JBS Autodesigns. They managed to source one for £150 plus VAT and fitted the thing for a total price of £230.
pimp 0 Posted May 17, 2005 Thanks guys. I'll try the for sale section. Wasn't sure if it was worth getting a second hand one. Same problem would happen again?? If I put in a cat replacement pipe and get a second hand cat for MOT's it won't be too bad.
pimp 0 Posted May 17, 2005 Oh yeah, tried GSF earlier and they don't stock VR6 cats. Just any other type of C!!!
woody 0 Posted May 18, 2005 could you not have a sport cat fitted. I know JMR (16vg60 on this forum) does them for the Miltek systems. You could have a Miltek VR6 exhaust for £280 and a Sport Cat for £280 + a couple of hours fitting and hey presto no more CAt problems. Give john a PM you could ask whether just spending money on a sport cat whether it will allow you to attach it to your existing exhaust setup. PM john as i know his computer is down at the mo but he receives PM's using his clever phone Gizmo. Cheers Woody
