a_riot 0 Posted June 12, 2005 Hi All, Well I got the C back from the mechanic. He replaced the steering rack and the uber expensive ps hose (the hose was more than the rack!), the fuel filter, an A arm bushing and an outer CV boot. On the way home I was smelling gas pretty bad. Got under the car today to see the fuel line leaking, right where it enters the body, which must have happened right as I was driving home from the mechanic. Not sure if the filter replacement had anything to do with the leak though. Maybe the filter was clogged and now with more pressure it blew the hose, unless he pulled on it trying to get it off the old filter. I was surprised to discover the brake line were plastic rather than metal like they were on the scirocco. It has plastic brake and fuel lines. Is this stock? Anyone had to replace their fuel line before? It doens't look like that bad a job, but I am curious what the hoses cost. I noticed it leaks a little bit of fuel where the hoses connect to the rail too, but that might just be a clamping issue. I would be interested to know what it will cost to fix the leaky fuel if anyone has any idea. Thanks! Paul
Tekara 0 Posted June 12, 2005 Yep ive had leaky fuel lines after my VR went in for engine work. Rubber perishes with ages and they dont seem to fond of being removed and reused either. I was charged £58 for pair of hoses and half hour at the garage to fit.
Walesy 0 Posted June 12, 2005 how come your lines are so short?
RW1 0 Posted June 13, 2005 I was surprised to discover the brake line were plastic rather than metal like they were on the scirocco. It has plastic brake and fuel lines. Is this stock? Stock is:...... Fuel lines are hard plastic, black supply to engine, blue it the return to tank and clear/white is the tank to carbon canistor filter usually Runon the offside underside of the underside. I seem to remember seeing some on EBAY late last week (secondhand). Brake pipes are the usual metal and run down the nearside unside of the floor pan. Check the joints at the fuel filter, the next break in the lines is in the engine bay at the servo under the air intake ducting (unless not standard) between the MAF and the throttle body. This one does leak if it has been undone in the past and is fairly difficult to get decent purchase to tighten up cos of it's location.
NickVR6 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Read my thread, I've just done the 2 fuel rail pipes, £58+vat for 2 short rubber hoses, what a ripper. This is not a pleasant job. It was impossible to get the hoses off under the brake servo, as mentioned hard to get any purchase and they are massively tight on there! I did it all in the end, but it was very tricky for such a simple job. PM me if you want to know anything more about how I did it all in the end or you can phone me. If your local i'd give you a hand but no idea where you are?
