Shaggy 0 Posted June 16, 2005 I now have both a Vr6 Gearbox and a spare G60 box, i am wanting to put the 1st and 2nd Gears into the box. Now i know vince at stealth racing can do this, but can anyone point me in the direction of someone a bit closer to me? i am down in portsmouth, Hampshire, i dont really mind gong to stealth , but it woud be alot more practical to find a tuner closer, i was thinking someone like "the Phirm" or even JMR??? Cheers
h100vw 0 Posted June 16, 2005 Find a gearbox specialist, it doesn't have to be a tuner. I would think most tuners would shy away from doing this sort of stuff. Specialist tools etc. Lots of scope for things going Pete Tong for the inexperienced. Although a tuner may have a place they use themselves which they'll tell you about. Guest Posted June 16, 2005 mike_g60, look in your local yellow pages. There will be plenty of gearbox rebuilders/refurbers.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 16, 2005 Go to http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum and send "HotGolf" (Martin) a PM. He's based in Wales, so should be a bit closer than Stealth? The guy is a legend with boxes in the Golf world.....
woody 0 Posted June 16, 2005 JMR uses a bloke he knows to rebuild gear boxes. mind you might be worth thinking about getting a new diff (quaife spelling) at the same time
Shaggy 0 Posted June 30, 2005 is jmr open at the moment i cant seem to get hold of anyone?
Neil VR6 0 Posted July 1, 2005 JMR is a kind of sideline business for John. If you leave a message or pm him (16VG60) he will get back to you. Gauranteed :)
W3RKD 0 Posted July 1, 2005 we use JP-race at silverstone.. there work and turnaround time is fantastic. and a g60 box will only cost £30 on a courier to send.
Neil VR6 0 Posted July 1, 2005 http://www.jprace.co.uk/index.php How much is a rebuild for a G60 box then?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 1, 2005 mind you might be worth thinking about getting a new diff (quaife spelling) at the same time I'll second that. It's also a chance to change the clutch and use Redline MT90 untainted with old cruddy original oil..... You might also want to consider some different gearing options whilst it's apart too... Hotgolf 0 Posted July 1, 2005 Don't go Quaife!! beleive me you'd be better off getting a peloquin from the States. It still works out cheaper the import tax is added to the price the other end. Comes with diff bolts and bearings too.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 1, 2005 And the Peloquin comes with a warranty, the quiff doesn't. At the end of the day they are the same product, you just get the bolts and bearings included with the Pelly. I needed a diff quickly and Scirocco.com couldn't send me a pelly in time, so I had to go with the quiff. Not grumbling though....either way, it's a must have on Golfs/Corrados imo
