low mpg

another problem from me, i seem to get a low mpg from my c not sure if its correct or not generally its about 30mpg? i did recently have a large crack in my exhaust manifold and so changed that and also welded up other areas of the exhaust, but still it stays about the same? any ideas?

To be honest, 30MPG is about right. On long motorway runs where you are doing say a continual 70-80MPH, you might expect to get up to 39MPG if you were lucky?

 

But combined, like you said, 30MPG sounds about right to me?

i have a 1.8 16v and do a lot of motorway, plus a fairly substancial anount of urban. Currently get about average 32mpg, on a good run i have had 40-41mpg but i didn't have a lead foot that day. 0X

the best ive had in my vr was 35 that was going down the motorway doing a steady 80/85 mph,usually stays around 25 urban driving

You Lot Should check out the European version of the MFA

 

Readings for gas use are in Litres per 100KLM!!!

 

I'm lucky to get it near 10l per 100k

I have never seen higher than 23 mpg on mine even when I reset it on the motorway at 56mph. :mad:

 

But I did fill the car up once drove to Derby 1 tank and re-filled and work it out to around 32mpg so I reckon the reading is way out. Any ideas on how to adjust?

fat tony....have a look in sept 02 issue of the sprinter,as that shows you how to set it to instantaneous rather than average mpg......i've still to do mine...i'm going to try it today,so let you know how i get on

Oh I just started working in Glasgow and have a four mile commute and I got 248 miles from a full tank lol :lol: Think it may be cheaper to walk take bus or train. Must stop being a lazy bob strad . Thing is my parking spot cost 700 pounds a year so it would be rude not to take the car.

Found my copy of the Sprinter.. here is the procedure :

 

 

1) Select neutral, and switch to memory mode two on the MFA stalk..

2) Turn on the ignition, then press and hold the MFA select button.

3) Turn off the ignition, whilst still holding the MFA select button.

4) Turn on the ignition, whilst still holding the MFA select button, but this time actually start the car.

 

Bingo.. should see a 4 digit number appear on the screen (a checksum calculated by the computer, which doesnt mean much to you or me) and then off you go.

 

There are 6 different displays available to you.. these are :

 

Press 1 - Intake Vacuum Manifold

Press 2 - Engine speed display in RPM

Press 3 - Memory Fuel Consumption

Press 4 - Speed Sensor Impulse

Press 5 - Oil Temp in Degrees Centigrade

Press 6 - Ambient Temp In Degrees Centigrade

Ive done that before, it works but there are less features on the 16v. It was ages ago so I cant remember what they were but the instantaneous fuel consumption is there. Stick it on then cruise down a hill in nuetral and it reads 99.9mpg :D

fat tony............i tried it out and only seemed to get the instantaneous mpg :? though my trip meter just cycled through 1...mpg,2...oil temp,3....ambient temp ....don't know where/how they managed to get inlet vacuum,engine rpm and speed sensor impulse :?...unless of course our g-60 friends can help us out there

right enough jim :wink: now you come to mention it.......i think it is only pre-92 cars that have the "full monty".....so that should be all g-60's and all 1.8 16v's
