2 Different Wishbones !!

Just had my V belt done as my wide wheels pushed the plastic liner into the the belt and shredded it, NICE!

 

Anyway, i asked them to check all the suspension geom to try and find out once and for all why one wheel sticks out more than the other and they found..................

 

One wishbone is 1.5-2 inches longer than the other! Drivers side being shorter, nearside being longer. I take it this is not right? App they both have VAG part numbers, shall i get them and can anyone check what the hey is going on!

 

Good news is that he said its never been touched underneith, no damage at all, all straight as you like.

Sounds like someone fitted a Passat wishbone to one side.These are longer and are used by some to widen the track on Golfs.

IIRC the Corrado ones are the same as the mk2 Golf.

is it the passenger side wheel that sticks out more ? about 10mm ?

i've noticed this on a lot of c's , mine is the same

Probably someone fitted an early Corrado wishbone to a VR or vice versa.

VR wishbones are slightly longer than the other Corrados.

I suspect one part number starts 191 and the other 1H0..?

Just had a look on ETKA the 16v and G60 wishbones are identical are are not handed, part no:191 407 151B

 

VR6 ones are handed are are 1H0 407 151A and 1H0 407 152.

1.5 - 2 " Longer ? or shorter ? the vr is the shorter one ? is there actually enough adjustment on the camber and tracking for this to be possible

Yandards, thanks for the part # , i'm fitting some braided hoses next week, well i was going to until i rang my local vw specialists and they said £30 to fit , so they can do it for that price :-)

so i'll get them to checkout the wishbones for me

I sincerely doubt that "a lot of Cs" have the wrong wishbones fitted to 'em..

fit the vf mount yourself ! all you need is a trolley jack and half an hour

How in the world of amazing events do i get a torque rench in their my friend, thats what got me scratching my bolding head?

 

PS: Is VT & VF one in the same mount?

you use two socket extension bars together and you can undo it easily

 

is it the vibatechnics front mount that you bought ?

I bought the VF Engineering one from NS Racing thread. Solid with one poly bit at the top and it was £90 delivered. I got confussed thinking it was the VT one so i hope its not a mistake. It looks the same as yours mate?

Dont i need a pit to get under the car for this though, have ramps but its a struggle to get the car on with out eating the chin spoiler.

 

Just off now to get these part numbers off the wishbones, back in 10 with the numbers..

no you dont need a pit mate , you jack the car up using the standard jack at the front/side, undo the mount and then use a trolley jack with a piece of wood on it to lift the engine , this will allow you to remove the mount

then put the new mount in and hand tighten it , lower the engine down and push the engine back and forth this is so it sits on the mount without causing stress against the other mounts, then torque it up

job done

Well my VF llooks almost identical to your VT, so hopefully as good and saved myself 30-40 of the queens. Ill let you know soon!

Passenger side is the one that sticks, at the wheel by about 3/4 of an inch compared to drivers side. These numbers look right though yeah? So they must be designed to be different, maybe for torque steer?

yep i rated the new mount mate , much smoother

i've asked a few places about the wheel sticking out and no one seems to know, longer driveshaft on one side etc but nothing definite

have you got the torque setting or do you need them ?

and i've just realised that those part numbers are both different from any quote on this post.....aarrrhhh! Perhaps they are both wrong and off something else. (kinda wish it had no VAG history now!)

ok the top bolt is 60nm (44ft lb)

bottom is 55nm (41 lb ft)

Possibly its right then. Obviously much easier to spot with the big wheels.

No way now i know. After buying some rims from Awsome for my mk1 years ago, i was lying on my back fitting a new chin spoiler when i noticed one wheel stuck out further.

I went back to awsome and kicked off big style saying they had sold me wheels with different offset and i'd had them painted and the rims polished. Any way they checked the rims OK spent half a day measuring the car from top to bottom to make sure it wasn't twisted, all OK. I ended up just forgetting about it.
