A5 VRX 0 Posted June 21, 2005 Really fed up of the car pinking! I've got a 1991 1.8 16v and when the engines hot and under load it pinks like mad. I've had the timing done in the past which worked for a little while and i've also used Redex which i think did sod all! Any ideas folks? Also the car has been run for the past 2-3 years on optimax so can't be the fuel? Will new injectors cure this?
h100vw 0 Posted June 21, 2005 No I don't think so. The pinking is probably worse due to the hot weather. I think you may need to back off the timing until the cold weather comes back. Or get yourself a VSAM or Kstar fitted. Gavin
quicksilver 0 Posted June 21, 2005 I take it that you've already checked for obvious stuff like induction leaks.

If your timing is set up right and C.o is ok (check fuel pressure and control pressure are ok aswell)16v should run well enough with out k star they don,t need it unless your cr is way high If the head has not been skimmed to death and all is well with the fueling there is no reason why you car should pink if set right I set them up all the time and have no problems Edd. P,s lack of fuel can cause an engine to get hot and pink pull the injectors out ,jump the fuel relay and lift sensor plate put the injectors into 4 clear bottles they should all have the same fan and deliver the same amount in all the bottles hope this helps
