g60_Pete 0 Posted July 2, 2005 how to on a 91 g60? replaced the whole alternator last week, but not the belt as it was in good condition, it now however squeals like bloody hell, so im guessing it needs tightening up, how do I do this? cheers.
W3RKD 0 Posted July 3, 2005 The belt self tensions using the spring damper. the only way for the belt to be loose is if a, you have a dodgy spring damper or b, you have re-run the belt's in the wrong route. Does the belt look/feel loose ?
Supercharged 2 Posted July 3, 2005 Also - did you use the pully from your old alt? - If not, was the new one the same size?
g60_Pete 0 Posted July 3, 2005 the spring damper seems fine. used a new one and its the same size so far as i can tell but i shall double check. also its run in the right routes. the belts also clean and seems to be about the right tension. tightened all me nuts up (hehehehe) and its quieter but still squealing a little a tickover. shall check the pulley. stevemac 0 Posted July 3, 2005 Talcum powder will quieten it down (temporarily) - permanent fix is a new belt.
