andrewdowd 0 Posted July 12, 2005 Anyone know a quick and easy method of getting the down pipe off a g60? i cant undo the inlet manifold bolts because they are rounded off and it looks near impossible to get to them from underneath, any ideas anyone? Henny 0 Posted July 12, 2005 see your other thread about the cam belt... ;) Basically you need a long ratchet extension which you feed up through the gap between the subframe and the floor for the rear ones and through the gap in that funny block thing for the front ones... you also need a deep socket and a wiggle-woggle (technical term!) joint to give you the flex you need to be able to get onto the bolts... Oh, and a BIG bar 'cos they're likely to be TIGHT! I've just done this in a carpark on a 14 year old G60 that's never had the head off, so it's not that difficult... 8)

Henny 0 Posted July 13, 2005 Baz2004, you should have seen how we got the engine DOWN from there... :|
andrewdowd 0 Posted July 14, 2005 Bit easier than mine, i didnt have half the height u got there, plus my brand spankin new wibble wobble bit didnt stay firm enough (wise choice of words ) to hold the socket upright so i had to get a mate to guide me onto the nuts from on top. my god sounds like somthing out of a bad porn novel
Henny 0 Posted July 14, 2005 andrewdowd, a little bit of insulting tape on the wiggle-woggle will make it stay a little more errect for you, but still floppy enough to allow you to get it onto the nuts from below... The height of the engine was where we had the car up on axle stands, then jacked the engine up a little more so it wasn't on the mounts anymore, propped it on the blocks and wood, then let the car down off the axle stands... :| There was just enough room under the car for me to get in and get the nuts off... It was a bit tight though... :|
