monVR6 0 Posted August 15, 2005 OK - the ABS light has come on this morning and stayed on. Don't have my handbook handy to check what this means. Brakes feel fine - but can anyone tell me if I need to dash to the nearest garage?? Thanks
vr6storm 0 Posted August 15, 2005 you need someone with VAG-COM to scan it for you...............should just be a sensor but best to get it scanned so you know what you're dealing with
DEL VR6 0 Posted August 15, 2005 your brakes will feel fine, but as far as i know, when the abs light is on, it means that the abs is not working. it could be somthing simple like a dodgy sensor which arent that expensive to replace. you could also apparently clean the sensors. either way, you dont want to be driving around with that light on for too long cos it means if you need to brake hard, you could lock into a skid. Supercharged 2 Posted August 15, 2005 Yep, if it's on it won't work - did you restart the car to see if it cleared?? as mentioned already you need VAGCOM to find out where the problem is...
DEL VR6 0 Posted August 15, 2005 btw, mine occasionally comes on, usually in the rain. I find that if I switch the car off, and restart it after a few seconds (while all the electrics settle) it usually goes off.
Joe M 0 Posted August 15, 2005 monVR6, does the sensor stay on when the cars started or does it only come on when u start moving?
VR6 0 Posted August 15, 2005 The search will yield a thousand results. Reckon I should write fortune cookies.
RW1 0 Posted August 15, 2005 Check the front hub connections for moisture, apply WD40. If still on, check the sensors are 1.2kOhm +/- 300 ohm.
Blair 0 Posted August 18, 2005 And make sure to get it sorted before your MoT or it will fail - mine did (bastard light came on a few days before!) Cheap fix though even if it needs a new sensor (just don't go to VAG to do it!)
monVR6 0 Posted August 20, 2005 OK - light comes on at start-up and stays on. It's only just happened recently. I noticeed the switch had come away from the dash so fiddled to get it back, the light came on soon after that. Hmmmm
