mr.ots 10 Posted September 12, 2005 I've noticed I have a slight leak from the auxiliary (also know as additional) water pump situated behind the rear righthand corner of the cylinder head on my VR6. I got a quote of £70 from the local stealers for the complete assembly (no individual parts were listed) but it appears the leak is only from the lower black plastic part where it has a joint and seal secured by three screws. Has anyone had any experience of this problem and is there an easy way to rectify without buying a new assembly. Can these seals be obtained individually elsewhere? Any help would be appreciated. vr6storm 0 Posted September 12, 2005 you can only replace the whole unit................but it could be worse.when mine went it was only £141+vat for the part  .............lucky for me mine was under warranty
StormVR6 0 Posted September 12, 2005 Apart from a possible botch job by yourself the unit is sealed so nothing can be replaced, unfortunately I had the same problem, not cheap but a damn sight easier to fit than the primary pump!!
Pastymuncher 0 Posted September 12, 2005 My aux water pump has been weeping for the last 4 years. As its not a large leak (no water on the floor, coolant levels fine between top ups at service, just a tell-tale green corrosion streak on the unit) I just leave it. Each time it's serviced the dealers put it on the watch list and reccomend leaving it till next time. Now I've said that next time I start it up I'll be pissing G12 through the front grille. mr.ots 10 Posted September 12, 2005 Mine's pretty much the same, just a very slight leak and water marks on the hoses. Doesn't seem to be any noticable drop in the header tank. Maybe I should leave it for now and just keep an eye on it. Thanks for the advice guys
vr6storm 0 Posted September 12, 2005 tbh if its only water marks on it i'd leave it as is..............i had mine replacced when there was a wee pool on top of the g/box
mr.ots 10 Posted September 12, 2005 After driving the car I can see a few drips on top of the rubber grommit on top of the gearbox. If I start to notice a drop in the header tank level I will replace it but it seems fine for now.
The Leningrad Cowboy 0 Posted September 12, 2005 I had mine replaced about 6 months ago. I'm impressed you could spot what sounds like a tiny leak - I couldn't see anything coming out of mine, and the header tank was losing half its volume every few days! The o-ring between the impeller shroud and the pump housing had completely perished, so no wonder it was leaking. Cost about £130 including labour, but that was at a specialist. Quite a good little pump. We did try and turn the old pump into part of our Le Mans constant flow water pistol, until I cracked the shroud completely! StormVR6 0 Posted September 12, 2005  I do find your signature very amusing, although I too suffer from those modifications!
