New Wheel Bearing Slop

Can anyone from experience tell me if new front wheel bearings should have a little bit of slop in them? The chap at the place that fitted them reckons that once the driveshaft nuts are tightened up it will pull them tight...is he right or talking pants?

sounds right to me, if you push the car without the driveshafts in, the bearings break apart so it makes sense.
