Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 29, 2005 OBD2 is far superior to OBD1. It has a faster acting lambda sensor and controller, better fuelling, better ignition and knock control and uses no idle valve. No Corrado got OBD2. Aswell as the performance advantages, it also tells you more in VAG-COM.
Icegeezer 0 Posted October 29, 2005 thanks so then mine is an obb1 wicked - at least i no lol so what uses the odb2? is it the golf vr6?? thanks
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 29, 2005 All current cars are OBD2, they have to be in order to get through emissions. OBD (On board diagnostics) 2 came out in late 95 IIRC (why Corrados didn't get it) and at the time on the 96 on Golf Highlines and VR6s, Vento VR6s etc got it. I'm sure OBD3 is in development as we speak! OBD is the car industry's generic term for diagnostics and the connection port is universal, but how the ECU runs the car and the communication protocols used are manufacturer specific.
