Noise from Engine

Recommended Posts

Hi All

My engine has started to make quite a loud scraping noise which I am quite concerned about. It was worse this morning and was quite loud but seems to calm down as the engine warms.

Could this be the Chain Belt? It seems to be coming from that region. C has done about 120k now.

What does it cost to get replaced?

Thanks

Ive only heard once case of chains slapping on an auto VeRa i went to see. Someone else here described it best 'marbles rolling in a bowl'

120k is no doubt a good time to get them done, if you have the cash to spare.

If it's that loud it's more likely to be the belt tensioner for the aux belt. That doesn't like cold starts in winter ..

£60+VAT from the dealer..

But that's pretty obviously on the other end of the engine from the timing chains ..

what would be a good approximate amount as "cash spare" to get this job done? I know it depends where you take it etc, but was just wondering what a rough figure would be?

Thanks L4PRG

is this going to be a pricy experience? What else should be done while the chain is being done?

have the clutch replaced too - it has to come off for the chains job anyway.

Stealth quoted me about £800 plus vat including the clutch.

At that mileage you would benefit from a cylinder head refurb as well - about another £600

Best wishes
