selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 First of all, the driver side (LHD) window on my rado has always been very slow going up (usually down too, but not as much). After washing my car here the other day, it got stuck totally. I thought it was just frozen (even though I put some silicone on the edges to prevent it), so I just left it. Now I can't make it work whatsoever! Could it be the switch, the engine, or what? And is the window lifter engine hard to replace, and what would it cost from the stealers / used ? '89 rado g60 btw. Walesy 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Does it make a noise when you press the button?..as if it's trying to work?. have you tried taking your pants off too?
lukeage 0 Posted December 11, 2005 I am having an intermittent fault with my drivers side window as well. It also makes a noise as if its trying to work(you can a rythmic thud).
selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Walesy, no, no noise at all. Even without my trousers on, it will not work. Starting to piss me off, and on top of all that, I got my wiener stuck in the zipper afterwards. Haha, didn't even see the pants comment before I wrote mine. but, yeah, I've tried it alright. Walesy 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Sounds like it's the switch then dude. Does the other side work fine?
selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Yes, it does, from both switches actually. That's what makes me think it might be the motor, I can operate the passenger side window with the switch on the driver's side, if you understand what I mean.
Walesy 0 Posted December 11, 2005 I'd have a look at the switch first , they catch the rain when it drops through the window so can end up knackered.
selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 I will... how much is the driver side one from the stealers? And how much is the motor, if that's the thing. Oh, and are there any threads on how to take off the door cards?
Walesy 0 Posted December 11, 2005 I think the switch just clips out mate, i think you push the switch unit up or dwon and pull out..someone will confirm whether thats right though  have a look for any fooked wires that might have corroded. I'm not sure how much they would be from the stealers but it's always worth checking for 2nd hand . Not sure how much the motor is either ...and i'm not sure if just the one window would not work as a result of anything being wrong with the motor or ECU?..i think neither would work if there was a problem with those parts?...though I may be wrong?.. selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 well, as things turns out, it does work now, although I am scared of using it, as I don't want to end up with my window half winded down in this season. Walesy, I was thinking of taking the whole door card off, for three reasons: 1. I could lube the whole edge of the window with silicone 2. I could dynamat the door 3. I could fit my new component speakers. I am taking out the seats and a lot of other stuff this christmas to vacuum, clean and put in some new cables for my stereo system. Hopefully it's not the ECU, although I wouldn't mind, as that would give me an excuse to buy a late-spec one with one-touch operation. 2nd hand would probably be a good thing. I'll go down to the stealers tomorrow, just to see what it would cost me. The Norwegian company representing VW and Audi, is called Møller, and we have something we call the Møller law of multiplication. Whatever you expect to pay for a part, multiply it with ten, and you get what they charge. I.e. when I was going to buy a new ISV for my car, I thought: "that can't cost more than... let's say £30. It's just a valve". I ended up in clinical shock and the price of £300. So I figured that was a waste of money, and invested the 30 quid in a bottle of carb cleaner and a six pack of stella. Walesy 0 Posted December 11, 2005 selbekk, are you brittish ? ...or have you lived here ever?...you have very good english skills if not  ...and you are mad as a haddock and that I like. The window does sound like it could be a bad connection as the problem is intermittant Have a look around useing the search facility, I just found this thread http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... ken+window maybe of use..seems there's a few things it could be. With regards to the doorcard. Theres a few screws around, I think on the early doorcard the only tricky screw to find is the one on the inner door pull thing...you have to unclip the top of the handle and there's a screw behind. (( it's kinda hard to explain )) Would be another good idea for one of the lovely mods to whack into the Knowledge Base.
selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Walesy, no, I'm not British, but I did spend a whole year as an exchange student in the US last year. Oh, and I used to subscribe to both Max Power and Revs, so I've picked up a couple of british expressions from them :) The stella comment convinced you, didn't it? :D I'll take pictures when I take my doors off, and even write some explanations, so I can contribute some knowledge to that base. :) Thanks for all help

selbekk 0 Posted December 11, 2005 hehe, yeah it really doesn't appeal to me the way it used to when I was 14-ish. Nice laydeeez tho :)
fla 9 Posted December 11, 2005 If the window operates from the drivers side but not the passenger it points to the passenger switch. They just pop out - no need to remove the door card. Borrow one from a friend to try and that should confirm the nature of the problem. Might be worth taking it apart cleaning up the button contacts (remove the centre button late on the circuit board and clean the board with some WD40 on a cloth, put some fresh tape over it and reassemble) HTH
selbekk 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Well right now both windows operate from everywhere, but the driver side window has always been really slow, and now recently it hasn't worked at all for short periods of time. The switches light up, but I'll have a look at them anyways.
