stoopid question time! inlet manifolds

there appear to be two types of inlet manifold 42 and 50mm

 

does this refer to the internal diameter of the channels? or external?

 

not sure whats fitted to mine and want to find out!

on a 16V - that refers to the internal bore size...

Theres actually 3 different types,theres a 42mm long runner intake which came on early golfs,then theres the 50mm which stayed on golfs from approx 88 onwards,then theres the 42mm short runner wehuch came on all corrados and passats

is there a 40mm that came on very early corrado`s with a stamp on the left hand intake???

no,the stamp is on the long runner intake on the left runner on the top half.

my g/f old corrado was g reg and that had a long runner intake on it with a stamp... dunno if it was from standard??
