Will 0 Posted December 12, 2005 Had the geometry setup on my C yesterday but was told one of the track-rods is slightly bent, which made it impossible to get a completely accurate tracking setting. The garage said if I get it changed they'll set it up again free of charge so me question is - what's the job of changing a track rod like. If it's easy, something I could do in 2/3 hours then I'll do it tomorrow as have the day off, otherwise I'll prob end up waiting 'till next summer... Thanks for any advice
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted December 12, 2005 If they're anything like mine, they'll be siezed on after 10 years! I bought new track rod ends + bolts and got my garage to fit em :) Cost about £60 for the fitting. I think they heat the old ones up with a blow torch once they're seized, so they can get 'em off
Supercharged 2 Posted December 12, 2005 GSF sell track rods with ends for about £20 but make sure you get the ones with several sides to the joint where it meets the rack (not the 2 sided golf one) It's a pig of a job because you need to get a thin 32mm spanner between the subframe and wishbone to undo the old one and a ball joint seperator to release the end, the boot is reusable but you may need to saw the old rod into to get it off...
