Loza 0 Posted January 3, 2006 Hi Guys I'm having my bumpstops cut tomorrow and just want to double check the amounts to remove again. From reading the forum (cheers supercharged) I gather that 30-40mm off the back is good. But I can't find the amount for the front ones. I'm guessing to chop off the top rib but would like to hear what others have done?? :) Looking forward to any advice! Tallyho
h100vw 0 Posted January 3, 2006 If you chop the fat bit off the top, there won't be anything to grip the piston so the bumpstop will be free to move and the dust shield won't do anything. You might be able to glue the bumpstop to the piston?? Did you get advice from C&R? Gavin
Mike Edwards 0 Posted January 3, 2006 Why not use the 20mm shorter front bumpstops from the Golf?
Loza 0 Posted January 3, 2006 Ah yes but which ones for a mark IV golf? Which model? I may only do the rears for now!
Supercharged 2 Posted January 4, 2006 Why not use the 20mm shorter front bumpstops from the Golf? I think the shocks have already been put on the car... replacing them would mean stripping them down and doing the geometry again...
Mike Edwards 0 Posted January 4, 2006 In which case, using a bread knife trim the uppermost 'segment' off the rear bumpstops, and the lowest segment off the fronts.

Loza 0 Posted January 4, 2006 Ok guys, the bumpstops have been cut by 40mm on the back which gives about 3mm bumpstop clearance on one side and is just bang on the other. BUT! The side with 3mm clearance is sitting slightly lower than the otherside. AND GUESS WHAT? The car now pulls to the left. Doh! Which is the side that sits higher. Any ideas ????? Ah the joys of modding.

Supercharged 2 Posted January 4, 2006 Goood good, did you use the patented Mike Edwards Breadknife approach?
Loza 0 Posted January 4, 2006 Yes there was a knife involved. Any ideas why it could be pulling to the left and sitting higher on one side ???
