gradeAfailure 0 Posted January 20, 2006 I think it's around the £700-£1000 mark, depending on what other work you have done at the same time...
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted January 20, 2006 Where abouts in London are you? £500 can get you chains/tensioners, clutch, flywheel done Thats excluding the parts

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 20, 2006 You can do it yourself if you're good with spanners :-) Just take your time with the timing though ;-)
dinkus 10 Posted January 20, 2006 2cc's done an amazing how-to guide in the Knowledge Base too - http://www.the-corrado.net/wiki/index.p ... eplacement
CVRDUB 0 Posted January 22, 2006 thanks ill have a read and see if its above wat i could manage.... :?
Trig 0 Posted January 22, 2006 I was thinking about attempting it while my car is off the road and recording it all on slow capture. Don't think I am good enough with a spanner though, i'd just be following the guide and hoping for the best! Not sure if my garage is big enough either. 2cc 0 Posted January 22, 2006 You may be right there triggermyson, I was toying with doing it at home but then opted for the workshop where I work (lucky). Not impossible at home, but much better to have a bit of room if you can
matth76 0 Posted January 22, 2006 The Phirm have quoted me between £500-600, including all parts, and new clutch. They are in the south. If you're near the midlands give Stealth Racing a call as they're very good too.
CVRDUB 0 Posted January 22, 2006 that sounds really good deal tbh i might have to give them a call. number any1?? :D
Jim 2 Posted January 22, 2006 Stealth Racing number is 01926 812259! Dunno about the Phirm but PVW rave about em.. sure they'd do a good job! Lots of people on here have had the chains redone at Stealth though and are very happy with the work :)
corradovr6sc 0 Posted January 22, 2006 I'm having mine done soon and have been quoted £200 labour.

steve @ 0 Posted January 22, 2006 I've been quoted £1400 for chains, tensioners and clutch from a C specialist - is this expensive? Its just all these low figures i'm reading is making me wonder Expensive!! I was quoted to have the chains tensioners clutch and full head rebuild including all parts fulids etc 1450 from stealth. I plan to have this done in the next couple of months.
martyjmcfly 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Oky doky then - i'll do some rethinking then about who does me chain changing. Is Stealth really the place to go - i'm just worried about if any problems arise its a bit of a B to ship a car from Guildford to Stealth. But from all the comments Stealth sound like they treat their customers well.
gradeAfailure 0 Posted January 22, 2006 You could drive up with Phil K as I think his valver's going to Stealth from Guildford in the not-too-distant future...
martyjmcfly 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Food for thought - that would save on the return train fair
matth76 0 Posted January 22, 2006 If you're near Guildford go to The Phirm mate...Tim in there has over 16 year's experience. They and Stealth are the best around. If you read Performance VW magazine they really rate The Phirm. They are based near Farnham / Haselmere. Not far from you at all. They are an hour from me which is why I chose them. Not impossible at home, but much better to have a bit of room if you can I did mine on the driveway, summer weather admittedly. Your guide was excellent. Is Stealth really the place to go - i'm just worried about if any problems arise its a bit of a B to ship a car from Guildford to Stealth. But from all the comments Stealth sound like they treat their customers well. Vince did mine for £650 + VAT, for new chains, tensioners and clutch. You can be sure they will do a good job and the service is spot on. I called last week for advice on doing my CV joint and I ended up being on the phone for 20 mins while he gave me all the info i needed. You can bet the average garage would try and get you in to get some cash out of you.

andy 0 Posted January 23, 2006 How long did it take you andy? Hmm difficult one. It was a spare car so I wasn't pushed for time. Took the front of the car off and the head and all ancilliaries in an afternoon. I got the head reconditioned, this took a couple of days as it had 12 new valves and tappets put in. In the mean time I took the gearbox and clutch out, this probably took me half a day, what with disconnecting the driveshafts and stuff. Took an afternoon to put the new clutch and chains on, and then a day to put the gearbox back on, head on etc and have her running perfect again. Really enjoyable job actually, not technically difficult. So about three working days, although I spaced it out over a couple of weeks. I'd do it in two long days now I reckon.
