gibber 0 Posted February 6, 2006 Oh my god they are huge compared with the oem g60 callipers, they are like 6 inch top to bottom.
Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Gibber what MC are you going with? Is the VR MC the same as the G60, 22mm?
DANG60 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Just been on the euro car parts website. Altough they didnt have any in stock the callipers are about 70 quid each.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 7, 2006 Gibber what MC are you going with? Is the VR MC the same as the G60, 22mm? Corrado VR MC is 23mm
Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Interesting but they are all abs
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 7, 2006 Yep.... VW just put a bigger MC on the VR, probably to counter the extra weight.
Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Im looking for one bigger than 22mm to improve the pedal feel non abs tho. Anyone use the Wilwood MCs?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 7, 2006 Bigger MCs reduce effort, but increase travel....
Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Well then im not sure if that’s what I need cus I have HUGE travel on the pedal as is with a 22mm MC!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 7, 2006 You shouldn't have! I've always felt the G60 had a way better pedal than the VR! Maybe your rear calipers need looking at or an air lock possibly? When my rear calipers and pads rusted themselves solid to the carriers, I was actually driving around for a year with front brakes only, the pedal was terrible, but being new to Rados I assumed it was normal. Changed the rears to MK4 calipers and pads and the transformation was night/day in both braking performance and feel. A good bleed of the ABS pump and MC helps too, and disconnect an ABS sensor before bleeding and lock the brakes up a few times. This will get all the dead, cr@ppy fluid out of the pump and into the system for bleeding off.
Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Ive no ABS on my 16V and I have the new mrk iv rears on only thing I can think of would be the rear pads which I’ve read about before causing travel in the pedal.
Geo 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Bigger MCs reduce effort, but increase travel.... Wrong way round  They reduce the pedal travel as the larger cylinder doesn't have to move as far to displace the same amount of fluid, while the effort required at the pedal is increased. Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 That’s what I thought ?? would make sense the larger the cylinder the more fluid it moves etc.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 7, 2006 LOL, yes you're right.... I always get that the wrong way round! Sorry for leading you up the garden path Baz!
Baz2004 0 Posted February 7, 2006 No worries the hunt for a Wilwood MC continues !
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 7, 2006 I wouldn't mind some wilwood calipers! Let us know what you find out about the MCs as I want to improve my pedal too!
gibber 0 Posted March 25, 2006 I only have a little bit more play in the pedldle but Im putting that down to the pads not being bed in yet. saying that tho, my car is a LHD Golf and therefore has a better brake system, for example the servo measures 12" accros.
