squeel, screech etc from belt end on vr6

Recommended Posts

Hello lads!

Got some issues that have stumped me badly and cost me £400 in parts so far and still not solved!

its a squeeling noise that sometimes is their from cold and sometimes takes a few mins to kick in

ive replaced, belt, tensioner, alternator, pas pump (3 times), water pump.

noise is still there, however (and this is the bit that really pisses me off) if i spray wd40 onto the belt at the bottom of the engine the noise goes for about 20 mins.

also goes if u rev the engine over 1500 rpm then returns when the revs drop under 1500

what could be causing this? the fact that if i spray wd40 on the belt makes me think belt related, but cant be as its had 2 belts since the problem. and the noise sounds like a dry bearing type noise? not the usual belt squeel?

many thanks for any help at all!

I would not recommend using WD40 as a lubricant,Most poly V belts are powdered from new as lubrication,WD40 will just remove that and make the rubber soft and sticky. The noise might be from the belt running dry against the pulleys.

I would bin the belt, clean off ALL the pulleys with brake cleaner, sprinkle Talken Powder on the pulleys to dry up any left on WD40 and then refit the new belt. Also sprinkle some more powder on the belt while its running.

its a belt from gsf,

the one on there before was a bosch one which is still in mint condition but changed it incase.

i did hold a bit of sand paper on the water pump pully whilst it was running to grind it down a bit and the noise seems to have gone but havnt really driven the car yet
