ardandy 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Nearly every problem I have with cars has usually something to do with a sensor! I was wondering, do manufacturers have recommended times to replace certain sensors? On a 13ish year old car I would imagine they're not quite as accurate as they once were? Is it recommended to replace certain ones to help iron out any engine smoothness issues? Supercharged 2 Posted February 1, 2006 Magnetic sensors loose resolution over time, if something is over 10 years old I'd say it's done ok but weather you want to replace them all is up to you... could be an expensive exercise!
ardandy 0 Posted February 1, 2006 How many sensors are we talking about here? The main ones I mean. I'm trying to get my VR running as sweet as poss without a huge bill, but I imagine sensors aren't cheap?
_leon_ 0 Posted February 1, 2006 some are very cheap - but others are pricey...
steve @ 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Best to get it hooked up on vag-com that way you can see which sensors need replacing.
dr_mat 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Haha, prospective replacement of the VR's sensor array could easily set you back £700 ... Best to leave it till you know something's fubar before you jump in with your chequebook! Approximate prices, off the top of my head! : Crank sensor - £140 Cam sensor - £40 Knock sensors (2 of) - £50 MAF sensor - £350 (?) Lambda - £70 Throttle position - £40 An array of oil/water/air intake temperature sensors - £10 each There's sure to be others ...
bcstudent 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Temperature sensors £10 each? Really?
ardandy 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Do you think replacing the cheaper sensors, say these; Lambda - £70 Throttle position - £40 An array of oil/water/air intake temperature sensors - £10 each ...would make a difference to fuel economy and/or idling etc.
G 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Depends if one or more of those are faulty. Like someone else said it might be worth plugging in a VAG computer to check if your sensors are ok.
dr_mat 0 Posted February 1, 2006 If they're faulty then it'll help, if they're not faulty it won't make the slightest bit of difference... These are not "wear" items.. If you have a fault code then by all means replace the faulty sensor, but I can't see the point in spending money for it's own sake.
