G60 cam splash cover

Recommended Posts

Is there supposed to be anything holding down the plastic cam splash cover, thats under the valve cover? Nothing on mine, seems like it would rattle around (and I am having rattling problems at certain RPM ranges - which are at a constant frequency - so its not a moving part)

I thought maybe the valve cover would kind of hold it down by squishing it when I torqued it back on but I can poke it through the oil filler hole and it is definately moving around

There wasn't anything holding the one on my Golf when I changed the gasket but I didn't notice it being loose either... I will check the G60 one later and let you know...

I don't think its vitally important it being there, you could try it without

Hi,

The splash cover is meant to be loose dont worry as the rocker cover keeps it in place and stops it from moving about.

Do not remove this part either as it is preety important to have in place as it helps direct the flow of oil. 8)

Hope this Helps

I also have a funny rattling noise at certain Rpm and cant work out what it is- replaced the cam belt tensioner but it's still there

Anyone know what else it could be?

Yes had a look, mine is loose but there is no room for it too move side to side just up really so that won't be the cause of your rattle...

The most common rattling noise normally comes from a broken CAT heatsheild!

Or the heatshield at the bottom bend of the downpipe... Used to irritate the hell out of me until I put a big jubilee clip around it to stop it moving... :D
