Fitting 268 cams

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty new to the VR6 tuning game and I have just purchase a set of 268 cams. When I have had hot cams in other cars I've needed adjustable cam pulleys and some careful timing to get the most from the cam. Does the same stand for the VR or do they just fit as a direct replacement with the timing being unaltered from standard.

Also, as I am about to do the cams I figured I may as well do the timing chain also. How difficult a job is this and can I do it with the engine in situ?

Cheers...

There aren't any vernier pulleys for the VR6, so just stick the cams in and off you go.

You can't change the chains without dropping the gearbox unfortunately.

Catcams? You can go up to 272° with no issues other than lumpy idle and horrendous low end response. I have their 268°'s with the thinner mkiv headgasket and have had no pinking, or valve/piston clearance issues. Sounds like bare malarchy. lol
