Garry 0 Posted March 15, 2006 I need to replace the front top mounts on my G60. Any advice on how to do this - I'm looking to use the OEM ones! Ta
Riley 0 Posted March 15, 2006 you need, 17mm/19mm sockets and spanners. 10mm i think for the abs cable holder thingymajobba thats bolted to the shocker. spring compressors/a must. a weird tool thing to remove the top mount securing ring. and a buzz gun would make it a hell of a lot easier to remove the top nut. :) mark/scribe down the sides of the shockers/hubs before you remove them too, itll give you a rough guide for camber when you refit. Neil. :)
Garry 0 Posted March 15, 2006 Shite!!! Do you really need to re-set the camber? I thought the spring would drop down far enough to get the mount out! I'm running shorter springs which fully decompress when the car is raised off the ground!
Riley 0 Posted March 15, 2006 yeah i know what ya thinking m8,ive managed that on a mk1 before... but im not sure if its doable on a rado  Neil.
Garry 0 Posted March 15, 2006 I had a full geometry set up done not so long ago! I'm gonna be slightly p****d off if I have to do it all again.
Riley 0 Posted March 15, 2006 ive always managed without m8 :D as long as you really scratch down the side of the hub then you know its pretty much there when refitting... there *may* only be a slight difference with having non worn top mounts. i know you should really have it done by a pro,but its expensive and i only trust myself working on the car anyway  Neil. outlandish5 0 Posted March 22, 2006 Tip ex good for marking, easy to see with little light too. For the top nut I welded a bolt to a 19mm socket so I could fit the allen key down the middle. As for the top nut securing ring I somehow found myself in possesion of the proper tool, grinding down a bit of pipe to fit can also be done tho. Half hour per side including jacking up and taking wheel off.
CaiosG60 PWR 0 Posted March 22, 2006 We sell the suitable Sykes MacPherson strut nut remover set. http://www.shacktools.com/sykes-macpher ... -2028.html We could offer a 10% Corrado forum discount on these too. By the way, a friend I know set his camber with a spirit level. Then got it checked properly and it was virtually bang on anyway.
