I had a go at Autotesting today :-)

Recommended Posts

What a blast!!

OK, so it's a little embarrassing when your bosses son (who's 15) can drive a LOT better than you, (but he has been driving since he was 4 and is a Junior RallyCross Driver!)

I was still buggering about with my car at work, and I could see there was a lot of fork lift action going on in the car park/loading bay. Turns out that they were hosting the York Motor Club Autotest that month and I could have a go for £5, they even lent me a mini (no change of doing a handbrake turn in the mk4 with 265's on the back!)

Tell you what, it's harder than it looks! the works foreman is an ex British Champion. Anyone who's ever seen Russ Swift will know what I mean when I say these guys can literally turn a car on a sixpence. Absolutely incredible to watch, different story when you're behind the wheel! everyone thinks they can do a handbrake turn. You try doing a 360 around a cone, and trying to remember the course that was scribbled on a bit of paper that you've had 5 minutes to memorise. Steering with one hand, whilst yanking on the handbrake with the other and trying to keep the front wheels spinning to drag you round is not easy.

I was almost tempted to not sell the lupo and keep it for some autotesting action, but I thik I'll go find a crappy old polo or something for an autotest/grasstracking car.

Budget motorsport at it's best. You can never get bored of doing handbrake and J turns  hilarious.

All I need now is for him to give me some proper rally driving lessons.
