matth76 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Hi Just noticed a strange scratching/mild grating noise when ever I move the steering wheel. Actual steering is not affected and there is no knocking or anything. It sounds as though a bit of grit or something is caught up. Wasn't making the noise this morning only noticed it this afternoon. Although I have noticed this noise before but it was very faint and normally disappeared. Now it is very audiable. What could it be? Is it likely to be dirt or grit that has accumulated through the many holes either side of the steering boss? Cheers for any help.
VR6 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Why not just take it off and find out?! :) From memory, there is a metal contact between the wheel and the mounting. Probably just that that's collected lots of gunk and cak.
Furkz 0 Posted April 9, 2006 mine does that soemtimes i think it just needs greasing on the actual hub
matth76 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Cheers for your replies. Is the steering wheel easy to take off? Do I have to turn the air bag off somehow?? I noticed there are two screws on the back of the steering wheel. Is it just a case of unscrewing these? Anyone here taken their steering wheel off before? a_riot 0 Posted April 15, 2006 Mine did this when I first got it and it turned out to be the horn connection. There is an arm that makes contact with a copper ring around the steering wheel that makes the horn connection. A little di-electric grease on there solved it with no reoccurence. Phil K 0 Posted April 15, 2006 My momo boss does this too and would really benefit from some grease! I've just been turning the stereo up which seems to make it go away
dinkus 10 Posted April 16, 2006 Yup, mine does the same, but it's quite hard to hear over the mega-creaky boss  Apparently it is just the horn connector, but I need to get round to getting some grease and actually sorting it.
