2_Door_fun 0 Posted April 28, 2006 Did the garage not check the pump??? They should have really. Its in both your interests. Their bill and your car. If your headgasket has gone. Demand a propper two skin metal headgasket. Don't let em fit a compound fibre gasket. The sought of thing you may buy at your local shop. The Corrado headset is expensive. It includes all the required gaskets and new head bolts. All in all my mission cost me £352 all in. Not bad really £35 for the head to be skimmed, new stat and the headset plus metal gasket. Not had any probs since. I bought a new blue cap from VW a few weeks back to complete the job. Cost about £6. Good luck bud

2_Door_fun 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Yours is a G60? Yes. If so then No it does not have the Elecy pump. That pump is fitted to the VR6 version. Its prone to failure. How is the car going??
cromwell 0 Posted May 3, 2006 yeh its a g60 so no electric pump! car is still sitting on the drive way :( trying to get a decent quote to have it all done but its proving difficult!

g60bv 0 Posted May 3, 2006 gsf do the orignal oe gasket. which is metal. i think the gasket on its own is only £35. bolts are £1 each. plus exhaust gaskets and stuff. thay also do the kits for i think about £80. not bad. it took me only 1hour and 20 mins to get the head off.. easy. just so long as the exhaust bolts come off. cromwell 0 Posted May 4, 2006 on the gsf website they seem to do kits for everything but the g60 http://www.gsfcarparts.com/ :( right now garages are quoting me £600+ to do the work and i cant find anywhere cheaper!

2_Door_fun 0 Posted May 4, 2006 The place that did my car is in St Neots Just NW of Cambridge. I was living down there at the time. They are wright next door to a VW breakers Not Escorts. They often sell stuff on Ebay. With £300 difference in price it would be worth the journey...Plus pop in next door and see if Steve (Not Escorts) has any bits you may want... cromwell 0 Posted May 5, 2006 hmmm i would do that but i cant drive the car so wouldnt be able to get it there without paying £££s for a recovery truck there and back which would probably equal the difference anyway :( so far my best quote is £623 and theyve gone all the way up to £800! this is driving me insane! i could get it done right now if somewhere would do it for £400 or less
Guest Posted May 5, 2006 I had a clean around under the bonnet last weekend and noticed my external temp sensor had disapeared. It never stayed in place (in down by the towing eye) for long, but now it looks like the wires have sheered off, no exposed copper wire, just a straight cut right where the sensor used to be. I assume these are standard to Passats (whatever) and i'll be able to clip one off of another VW down the scappie
