joebloggsVR69 0 Posted April 22, 2006 It's a torx bolt (12sided star shaped) and it looks like the threads are buggered :( Need to remove the cover, so I can replace my accelerator cable
Trig 0 Posted April 22, 2006 Hmm.. long nose grips? Doubt it's on all that tight as its only holding some plastic down.
Scruffythefirst 0 Posted April 22, 2006 Hammer a slightly too big torx socket into it
craigowl 0 Posted April 23, 2006 Yeah - shouldnt be tight. Spray some easing oil down it. I dont take my car to bits much, but that is one type of bolt Ive had off easily.
StormchargedVR6 0 Posted April 23, 2006 There not torx , theres spline socket you need :?
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 23, 2006 When mine sheered too I just hammered a slightly larger bit in to remove, then bought some new ones. They are made of aluminium iirc correctly so are very easy to sheer if not using the right type and size of tool bit. Dutch ..also stick some copper grease on them when you refit as they seize very easily
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Finally got this damn bolt off today! Had to hammer on slightly larger torx bit, like some of you guys suggested :) New bolts on order from the $tealers Just out of interest, where do I get hold of a spline socket? The torx bits do the job, but I'd rather use the correct tool next time!
Supercharged 2 Posted April 29, 2006 Halfords sell a spline rail for about £
craigowl 0 Posted April 30, 2006 supercharged said Halfords sell a spline rail for about £20 Exactly what I bought recently for these bolts. The tool bits seem well engineered and are a snug fit - cannot imagine a problem in removing a splined bolt with them and I am no great mechanic. andy 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Local, small motor factor type places sell sets of 5 spline bits for about a fiver normally.
