pink22 0 Posted April 23, 2006 Hi, cars seems to be groaning, noticed it when stationary and sounds like a mechanical groany noise when turning the wheel left or right. It seems to be coming from behind the wheels?? Any ideas??

kongo127 0 Posted April 25, 2006 I noticed in my car that when you use some wide tires with good grip the PAS makes some more noise...
pink22 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Hi to you all, thanks for the replies. Checked the power steering fluid last night and it was well low so filled that up. Noise went a bit quieter last night and sounds like its dissapearing this morning. Crossing all my fingers and toes that thats all it is. How do i check the belt? Not quite sure where it is? And how much would a new pump cost me if i do end up needing one? Many Thanks x
dr_mat 0 Posted April 25, 2006 You know, only 5 years ago official advice was still to never attempt to turn the steering without rolling the car slightly forwards/backwards at the same time. With modern heavy cars and wide tyres this puts an immense amount of pressure on the steering components (try doing it without the engine running and you'll see!). PAS fluid level should be checked at the service, so shout at your mechanic!
