4stud 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Does anyone know a common problem that will cause this? Usually it's good old "turn it off and turn it back on" but this dont work. Would it be worth giving all 4 corners a blow with the air line? Yes i have searched but i always get the same results no matter what i type in. Thanks
VR6 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Put: ABS AND light And select the Drivetrain forum. If there's nothing in there that helps, i'm a badgers' scrotum.
4stud 0 Posted May 13, 2006 I'll bleed the brakes then. If that fails i'll remove the bulb for now.
dr_mat 0 Posted May 13, 2006 Why don't you scan the errors ... the ABS system will tell you itself exactly what the fault is, save all the random chasing of ghosts.
4stud 0 Posted May 13, 2006 How do i do that?
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted May 13, 2006 just had my rear discs pads and bearings done and the fluid changed. when i start the car all is normal(light on then off and the pulse under your foot from the brake pedal) then in normal driving the abs light comes on and wont go away. aaagggghhhh!!!! having looked at the fluid in the resevoir, it is way above the max. could this be the problem. also, the rear off side carrier was seized and replaced? don't really know where to start. car brakes fine and all feels good but the bloomin light is on all the time and the corrado paranoia is making me think its gonna be expensive. (my rad has just split and one fog smashed by a pheasant with mot looming!!!!)
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted May 13, 2006 just read on another past thread something about rusty abs rotor?? is this correct?? my rear brakes were pretty corroded. what does it look like so i can have a loo. can it be cleaned up?? expensive??
dazzyvr6 0 Posted May 13, 2006 the rear abs rotor cages are only about a tenner new,not long replaced the ones on my car
samm_cvr6 0 Posted May 13, 2006 i think it must be mechanical, ie the abs rotars asmentioned, you might aswell check the discs/pads and calipers while your there....best to plug into vag-com to be double sure tho..i just had the rotars done, rear ones are about 8 quid each, sensors cost a lot more tho....and i think it is best to make sure you use vag parts as the patent parts arent all compatible with vag ones, ie calipers and discs... matt_corradovr6 0 Posted May 13, 2006 i have brembo discs on the back (standard non-drilled etc) FROM GSF. are these not compatible with the abs rotors. its literally just happened today when i have picked the car up after having it all done. never happened before! Supercharged 2 Posted May 14, 2006 matt_corradovr6, take it back to the garage - the probably forgot to fit the cages to the new discs or distorted them taking them off...
samm_cvr6 0 Posted May 14, 2006 not sure about discs and rotars, they may be ok, bu I had a problem with fitting brake pads when the caliper was a patenet part..
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted May 20, 2006 i have had a look at the rear brakes withe the wheels off and all looks in order but i dont really know what i am looking for (i don't know what the abs cages looklike) any one got a pic of what i should be looking for?? would the fact that the discs are brembo matter, i thoughtthey would be the best quality? could the garage not have bled the discs properly? would that affect the abs?? it wasn't a vw specialist just a run of the mill garage? matt_corradovr6 0 Posted May 21, 2006 any one got ne pics of the cages cos i need mot! or shall i take the bulb out thedash and hope for the best?
dr_mat 0 Posted May 21, 2006 Not looked myself, but the cage sits on the rear of the hub, behind the brake disks, and yes that looks like the ABS sensor, so the cage is the other side of that assembly.
