Supercharged 2 Posted May 14, 2006 What car is it, a late VR6??? - If so you need the early caps from VW...
glen 0 Posted May 14, 2006 yeah 94 VR6 Am i also right in saying i need: MK 4 rear bump stops standard front bump stops - would these need to be cut down 35mm? standard VW top mounts all round and the early vr6 top plates Dont suppose any one has part numbers please? Mike Edwards 0 Posted May 15, 2006 Yes to the last 2 items. Not tried the Mk4 rear stops so don't know (do they work with the standrad dirt covers?) Mk4 front stops (to use with the sports springs - already shorter) are the way to go at the front. See the picture to understand why.
Supercharged 2 Posted May 15, 2006 glen, get the rear bump stops from GSF as they are solid rubber - then hacksaw 30mm off, get everything else from VAG
NickVR6 0 Posted May 15, 2006 I fitted lowered spring caps. I have 2 brand new larger (early style) caps sat in the garage if you want them. Had the same problem! These were on my car for no time before i put the lowered caps on. Pay the postage and there yours and i could post them tommorrow. just thought it may help if you've got to wait 3 days for vag to get em bud. ill pm you my mobi so if your interested just give us a buzz
glen 0 Posted May 16, 2006 cheers mate, but hopefully they should fingers crossed arrive today from VW did lowered spring caps make much differance?
NickVR6 0 Posted May 16, 2006 no, just made the ride a lot harder im now realising!! dont do it
andy 0 Posted May 16, 2006 no, just made the ride a lot harder im now realising!! dont do it do you reckon? I've got Konis/H&Rs with lowering top caps and never been bowled over by the 'acceptable' ride quality. Have you tried the same setup without the lowering caps? glen 0 Posted May 21, 2006 Koni TAs/H&Rs all put on but when fitting new whells i notice the spring might be the wrong way round!? as front are differant from back..... I fault the tightly wound end goes at the top?
andy 0 Posted May 21, 2006 No thats the right way round mate, you can't really get them on the other way up, the coil diameter is vastly different top to bottom.
glen 0 Posted May 21, 2006 should the bottom of the spring though be totally conpressed as in first 3-4 coil touching? also does it matter the rear springs are the over way round? Ta
andy 0 Posted May 21, 2006 Not sure about the rears off the top of my head but regarding the front my closer wound coils are pretty much touching too. What you have to remember is that the supension has to extend as well as compress. The touching coils are there imo to extend when the wheel goes down a dip and the suspension has to extend to retain overall stability.
andy 0 Posted May 21, 2006 Just looked at some old photos and yes my rears have the closer wound coils at the top, so yes they are the other way round to the fronts.
mehtasvr6 0 Posted May 22, 2006 that looks fine glen, did you fit them yourself, how long did they take to do?
