just realised i had an added bonus with the charger kit.

 

No import duty to pay!

 

Not sure how i pulled that one off as I was expecting to pay at least £150

 

Can't wait to get my hands on it now... only 2 days left though :)

No VAT when importing from countries part of the EU monetry union ;-)

 

There's a fantastic loophole in this VAT system, called the 'carousel' scam. It's dead easy and anyone can do it....and make millions :-)

 

On the bodywork thing....you'll have to bite the bullet and get it done professionally...but like you say, "what's that old beaten up VW that's just smoked me?" :-)

I was under the impression that Denmark was not part of the EU.

 

When I wired the money to the guy, Lloyds TSB said I had to do an "International Money Mover" as opposed to a "Euro Money Mover" as the danes still use Kroner (although the euro is legal tender also)

 

this is the main reason i was suprised regarding the duty.

 

although it wouldn't be the first time the bank has got it wrong ;)

Wait until the EUMU introduce the "VAT at source" scheme they proposed 10 years ago!

 

It'll mean you could end up paying as much as 25% VAT from some EU countries, but also as little as 10%. Added at the country of purchase.

 

Only one member of the EU is digging it's heels in with this proposal.....yep, the UK! It would wipe out VAT scamming instantly, but whilst the HMC&E feck about in their usual draconian manner, loads of people are pocketing millions in unpaid VAT through carousel scams.....and they can do begger all about it....idiots.

Ok then here is a question..

 

The charger has a 50mm outlet and i have 50mm pipework as far as the MAF then it is stepped up to 80mm (well a tight fitting 76mm to be precise)

 

Do you think there will be any problems with this smaller concentrated air flow directed at the MAF?

 

If so is it wiser to move the 50mm > 76mm connector to just after the charger outlet to enable the air to fill the larger cavity more before reaching the MAF (i.e the having larger hose for a longer run)?

 

Although, will the boost pressure end up being greater with 50mm hose for the run (air compressed into a smaller space)?

dont think you need to worry about the maf at all. but im sure the Wire will confirm tomorrow.

50mm is quite small, but good for bottom end torque. Speeding up gas flow by constricting it is good for torque, not so good for top end.....but it's a bit more complicated than that with forced induction.

 

Forget the MAF, it will be binned when Vince maps it and we're working on a MAP sensor map aswell, so benefits all round.

 

Intercoolers present a 'restriction' to boost flow aswell, and they work fine, so shouldn't worry about it too much tbh. Perhaps get a 50mm>76mm reducing elbow from Samco or Forge and fit that at the throttle end and maintain the 50mm everywhere else? Should be fine.

 

Don't the Rotrexes have a choice of air input and discharge elbows? If so, you might be able to use a larger discharge diameter....not sure, don't know enough on Rotrexes yet.

My ZR charger met a horrific death as the main shaft snapped.

 

Its currently being rebuilt, but will be going back on ebay early next week.

 

@ mr_fusion hey can i ask where are you getting the z-engineering charger rebuilt ? i have only been able to find mc racing autorised dist for z chargers and rebuilds i have e mailed them for details about getting mine done but no reply at all i want to get it upgraded to a stg 2 and a new tensioner pulley. they say on their website that it has to be paid for in full by bank transfer but dont seem to reply to emails.

i have emailed numerous times :x

Ok then... I have the supercharger and bracket etc..

 

No instructions though... so I have emailed the guy in denmark to see if he can tell me how the hell to mount it (way more complicated than the Z-Eng charger by the looks of it)

 

Kit seems very well made and solid...

Ok, an update, this is what the guy says:

 

"1) If you put the bolts and everything as shown on the attached picture, the bracket will only fit in one way on the left of the engine. I will sent you a drawing of the belt route.

 

2) The charger do not need an oilcooler for your setup. The oilcooler is needed over 350+ hp.

Looks like a nice bit of kit that! Don't think we can help with the technical queries though as we've never seen one before, well I haven't at least!

 

I can see how the bracket works though, looks pretty straight forward....you'll need to retain the factory belt tensioner though. I wish Vortech thought of that as it keeps the tension right.

yeah, worked it out by looking at the pic on storm developments (from the link you posted).

 

They use the same bracket.

 

Quite clever repositioning of the belt tensioner, flipped backwards and bolted to the bracket with a slot in the bracket to allow the tensioner to do its job.

 

In fact most of the kit in that pic (bar the intake) looks identical.

Right had a look at the fitting of this..

 

There are defo some clearance issues in the area of the alternator and the idler pulley (on the tensioner)

 

Can the alternator be repositioned to where the AC compressor bolts to the engine?

 

Are there any differences in the later VR6 (OBD2) castings of the head / manifold that would mean these clearance issues are not there?

 

 

In situ - not right against the block due to the clearance issues below

Idler pulley will rub against the corner of the manifold, may need a smaller pulley - or can some material be removed from the block on this corner?

As you can see there is 7mm-ish to go to sit flush against the head

Fuel lines need to move up from their normal position for clearance

Blimey, that is tight! I suppose the supplier or Storm are the only people that can advise unfortunately. Good luck with it though, it'll be worth it.

Kev, is it safe to remove a small amount of material from the end of the manifold (where it meets the head) as long as it doesn't cut into the gasket?

 

I need about 6-7mm.

the important thing is the pulleys are all lined up correctly. That defines what you need to do to get it to fit.

 

Maybes that bracket is for a 24v head, they are similar in design but slightly different in dimensions - if so looks like its no god for you and I will have to take it off your hands ;-)

In all seriousness, is this a probabilty (regarding the bracket being for a 24v)?

 

I'm sure I can get a different bracket if this is the case.

 

It will just be a major pain in the arse.

 

The z-eng charger is all fixed now, so that wil be up for sale soon.
