m3evo 0 Posted August 2, 2006 Hi, Whats the best way to release the tension on the Charger pulleys to replace the belt? on my G60 Cheers Dave
Critical_Mass 10 Posted August 2, 2006 Someone may come along and correct me, But when i changed the belt (along with pulley), i had to remove the nut at the top of the tensioner and slide it off of the bolt. It then slackens the belt and allows you to remove the belt to replace it. I found that getting the tensioner back on was the tricky part. Its a case of pushing down on the tensioner as hard as you can and slipping it back onto the bolt. I spent a good hour if not more trying to get it back on and i ended up snapping the end of the bolt off, So had to be replaced. Nice to see another Yorkshire lad on the forum! :)
kongo127 0 Posted August 2, 2006 I have always used a screw-driver to press the tensioner arm... There is a special VW tool for it, or may build your own tool. You also need to remove the PAS belt to do the charger one. Maybe it´s a good time to inspect it for any wear, and do both! Be sure to use the correct belt size for A/C models or even for smaller pulleys!
