ABS light comes on randomly

Over the last week my ABS warning light has came on while driving. Turning off and on and all is fine and it goes off. Do you recon this is anything to worry about or the start of an issue? Its just been in for a service, I'm thinking the sensor has been bumped or something.

Using the 'slam the anchors on' test... seems to be fine. I havent managed to test it when the light has come on though.

Sounds like a relay issue. Do you know where they are?

 

passenger side behind the under glovebox tray. think it is relay 72.

Tried slamming the anchors on when the light came on... I can safely say that the ABS doesnt work when it comes on :(

 

Do you still recon its the rely? Is the best place to get one from the stealers?

Best bet is to get it on VAG-COM when the llight is on... that will tell you where the fault is! could just be a lose connection somewhere on a sensor or something...

Test the following ( vag come will get you the answer quicker tho ! )

 

Relays,

Wheel sensors + connections,

Brake pedal sensor

ABS ecu connections

Pump connections

 

If all else fails - new abs pump :(

quick test for the wheels sensors is to check the resistance at the connectors on the suspension turrets with a multimeter, if one's fubar'd you will get a sky high resistance.

Take the cover off the ECU (in the passenger’s foot well) and remove the ECU. Un plug it and see if the connectors are showing corrosion damage. If they are, the ECU is probably water damaged.
