Toad 0 Posted November 8, 2006 Probably the hall sender inside the dizzy. It can be replaced, or you can buy a new dizzy. Where are you? someone might be able to lend you one so you can test that it is the problem.
Rcole 0 Posted November 8, 2006 Im in North Wales, Is it worth getting one second hand? Or arnt they that much new? Is there any way of testing it brfore buying one? Cheers for the help
Toad 0 Posted November 8, 2006 To be honest, a second hand one *could* pack up again pretty soon. Your original one has lasted 13 years.... I'd try a new one, or putting a new hall sender in it. Search for hall AND sender for more information remember to put the AND in (in capitals too)
Rcole 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Ok now I am stuck !!! Ive replaced everything, new leads plugs dizzy cap distributor hall sender. There is feed going in through the sensor stuck to the dizzy and through the centre lead theres fuel getting to the plugs but she still isnt sparking. What is wrong :? Anyone .............. Saint Tricky 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Might be worth checking the earth strap from your battery to the engine hasn't bust or corroded. A long shot but a cheap check. T
Toad 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Check the plug and the three wires running to the distributor. check the coil too, that could have broken down. I suppose it could be the immobiliser, if that's hooked up to the coil.
Rcole 0 Posted November 13, 2006 The car has not got an immobilizer, Ive had my electrical tester on the coil, thats fine and the three wires coming into the dizzy, two show earth and one shows live? Ive looked through the receipts I got with the car and the ignition barrel by the steering was changed in 2004. ANy other suggestions guys? Thanks so far. Toad 0 Posted November 13, 2006 I think the three wires should be earth, trigger wire to the ignition and feed to the rev counter. but I could be wrong.

Rcole 0 Posted November 13, 2006 without sounding too stupid, where do you mean by ignition switch?? Where is it based? as I said earlier the ignition barrel has been changed. Thanks for the posts though Keep them coming Rob
ben16v 0 Posted November 13, 2006 the ignition barrel is what you put your key in the switch is behind that and the contacts can corrade over time so the car will not start do a search for "ignition AND switch"
Rcole 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Thanks is there any way of testing it before I buy one??? Would it still crank if the switch has gone?? There is no delay in turning the key and the engine attempting to start???
ben16v 0 Posted November 13, 2006 they`re only £20 from VW yeah will still crank just not fire, on mine mechanic touched a live wire to the coil and it started on the button
