bmouthpaul 0 Posted December 19, 2006 As is in title I have a 1993 K reg American imported VR6 LHD Automatic. I got the car back form the garage, still buggered, and have found I can't get it out of Park. Does anyone know how I may be able to release it? Blue_Joe 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Paul I presume I'm talking to the right person. If so how did you get on with the new box on ebay???
bmouthpaul 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Alright Sam, Yeah correct chap. The ebay chaps asked me for the code for it as he's got two types, of which I'm not sure how to get it, but have found out now the head gaskets leaking as well and may need changing. I can't afford to keep it going now, gutted, so my plan is to sell it as spares or repair. Everything else on the car's in perfect working order. My one problem is I can't move the car, it's stuck in Park! Great. Paul
Blue_Joe 0 Posted December 19, 2006 As said in my PM I think it'd be worth more if you repaired it, even if you sold it afterwards. I'm sure a few on here will be able to tell you hwo to find out which gearbox you have. Then the garage I told you about can do the replacement quite cheaply, certainly ALOT less than you were wuoted before, and I can't see the headgasket being a fortune to replace! I'd check that route first before giving up totally if I was you as you stand to lose alot of money otherwise!!
bmouthpaul 0 Posted December 19, 2006 I could get a cheap run about I can keep the car, maybe as sorn and repair it when i've got the money over time. So yeah hopefully if someone knows how to get the code I can get the part and then go from there & also is there anyway of releasing the auto box. Cheers for the help! Supercharged 2 Posted December 20, 2006 Sounds more mechanical but have you had it on VAGCOM?
Supercharged 2 Posted December 20, 2006 Also - if the pedal switch is knackered it will stop it coming out of park...
bmouthpaul 0 Posted December 20, 2006 no i have never had it on VAGCOM, didn't know what that was till just now when I did a search on google. The mechanic said before dropping it back to my that the box had burnt out. I was able to force it into reverse to get it on the drive, so feels mechanical. Not sure where to go now? Any thoughts? Cheers for any help.
fla 9 Posted December 21, 2006 when you press the brake, can you hear a slight click from the gearstick area? If not, it could be the locking switch relay or the switch in the brake pedal.
bmouthpaul 0 Posted December 21, 2006 i've just tried and no I don't. I press the brake and there's a click under the brake, but I can't push the gearstick button in at all and no click.
fla 9 Posted December 22, 2006 i've just tried and no I don't. I press the brake and there's a click under the brake, but I can't push the gearstick button in at all and no click. OK, remove the gearknob, there is a small allen bolt in the side 5mm iirc. Press the small black button on the top of the gearstick - it should press down easily. Press the brake and then press this button down and try and change gear. If that works it means you need a new gearknob. If it doesnt have a look down teh gearstick and see where the mechanism locks against the selector plate. You can push this away with a screwdriver to allow a gearchange. Let me know how you get on. bmouthpaul 0 Posted December 24, 2006 right, I've taken the gearknob off and couldn't press the black button down at all. I was also unable to push the mechanism away from the selector plate. There seems to be a bar going striaght through connected to the lever that goes from one side of the mechanism to the other. THis bar fits into the grooves on the selector plate. I tried to lever it out of the way but couldn't?
