Help needed with - Broken spring on coilover suspension

Recommended Posts

Hi all, its been a while! mainly because my C as not faulted for a while :)

Firstly introdution to my car.

its a VW Corrado 93 L reg'd, 2.9i vr6 (purple for those asking)

Like most with their modified cars they dont quite look right without some sort of lowering taking place.

Im running very a low suspension ride height (i think FK coilovers, not sure which).

My storey involves my corrado, 40mph of speed and a pothole resulting in a broken spring on the nearside rear :S

I need to know how too identify my suspension?

Where is the part numbers located?

Also weather its wise to get both rear springs changed?

***is it safe to drive with a broken spring?!?***

Or should i get total new suspension?, if so recconmendations please :D

Cheers Mark

P.s Merry Christmas to all !

P.p.s Santa all i want for xmas is New suspension

I'm not sure but there should be a code or part number on the shock absorber body somewhere and maybe also on the spring itself.

it's allways best to replace suspension in axle pairs as it will probably screw the handling up if you only change one, plus if one spring has failed its possible that there was a bad batch and the other may also break soon, it usually takes a lot to snap a spring unless there was something wrong with it or it was misaligned when fitted.

dont keep driving it with a broken spring though as it may damage the shock absorber or the threads on the coilovers.

how old is the suspension ? could it still be under warranty?

get some pics up as someone may be able to identify the make and model.

There will be part numbers on the springs of most manufactures coilovers. You should have no problems in getting a replacment for the broken item. Do you know where the kit was purchased from as it may be worth speaking to them first.
