skinnyman9000 0 Posted March 7, 2007 After my MOT failure, and some further investigation into my car, it would now appear that the bottom end is knackered :x I was going to attempt to rebuild it myself, however due to the love for my car, and my parents intervention, this is now not an option. On the plus side though the have lent to £1k to sort the problem. Sooooo, with a budget of £1k what will i be looking at in terms of rebuilds? I think a 2L bottom end is a must for a start, any other goodies i would be likely to squeeze in there with my budget?
khurrado 0 Posted March 7, 2007 Buy an ABF engine and wack it in. OR better still buy a 2.0 corrado on the cheap, look for one with leather, alloys etc, take what you need sell what you don't, and you will prob have enough change at the end for a large donar kebab and chips. skinnyman9000 0 Posted March 7, 2007 BUT i thought the block was too tall on the ABF to fit in the Rado? AND a 2.0L 16V will require the use of a cat, whereas if i rebuild the one i've got i can have a 2L bottom end on it. PLUS i wanna get the car on the road sharpish, i miss it! Rustynuts 0 Posted March 7, 2007 A 2.0l 16v will not require the use of a Cat, your car is old enough not to need it. ABF engine is taller, though would have thought a VR6 bonnet would take care of height issues.
White2505 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Hi Skinnyman, i've been away for a while so only just seen your post. I had similar issues with my 1.8 16v about 12months ago. abf 2.0 bottom end goes straight in. block is about 15mm taller but original early bonnet is fine. it's a tight fit but fine. no cat required. passed mot on emissions easily. no issues in last 12 months with the conversion.
