Looks like "Sport Rader" bolts I had on mine. Had to get them drilled off today as key fell to bits. :x

They're from VW (so my registration card says)

When you get them off bin them as they are w**k....

 

THey corrode and just crumble and then its a nightmere, its possible to knock a socket over them if you get stuck...

They are trilock aka sport raiders. They are crap, so much so you can't get spares for them as I have recently found out to my cost. The best thing for removing them is an Irwin bolt extractor. Throw them in the bin when you're done!

cheers guys, sounds like they are notoriously Sh*te then! ill check with my local garage to see if they have the proper tool, otherwise it looks like it'll have to be a bolt extractor!!!

VW will have a full set...

 

They are not the best design and bare in mind that yours may be 16 years old!!!

 

My local dealer has stopped supporting them as they are so cr@p. They advised me that you can no longer get spares through VAG either.

doubt they will be that old, they are the locking nuts on my Golf Highline (r Reg) cant believe the previous owner buys top quality parts for it and really looks after it, but then puts cr&p locking nuts on it!

I got my last set of trilocks off when I lost the key with an impact socket and a big hammer. knocked the impact socket over the trilock and then just put the ratchet in and off they came!

Use a spare socket, 16mm (i think) and hammer it tightly over the locking wheel nut. Should come out then with a ratchet.

 

This tip was brought to you by this dodgy looking emplyee at my local halfords.

I recently lost my key and i tried everything, i tried beating a socket on it, i tried a locking nut remover on some air tools at a local garage but the thing wouldn't shift. I ended up paying a local back street garage £30 to remove it. All the guy did was put and old knackered locking key on the end of an extension bar and wacked it on with a lump hammer, the wheel bolt came straight off!

I have a spare removal key for this locking wheel nut if you need it mate, just pay the postage and it's yours to borrow. Let me know,

The lugs are spaced differently for each set of locking wheel nuts so it will be more than luck if it fits.

Fair enough, if you wnt me to I will measure the spacings and give you the dimensions to check, if you are interested in borrowing it, up to you really G60SC_stoney.....

 

Also you could use a Gator-Grip universal socket wrench

or as mentioned just hammer on a slightly-smaller socket over the top of the bolt head, although this method is not quite as successful when used with round headed locking wheel-bolts. You can use the locking wheel bolt removal tools, made by Laser / Sealey / Draper etc, have a look here:

Also you might want to try hammering a large spike at an angle to try and get the nut to shift slightly, as have heard this sometimes works on the Tri-locks.

 

Finally, if all this fails, you can cut a notch in the head, connecting up the holes then use a flat-head screw driver and something to turn it to get it off or just weld another bolt / piece of metal to it and use normal socket to remove (this MAY wreck the alloy though).
